Splish, splash! Summer is here and so are the inflatable pools. Check out these stormwater-savvy tips before taking a dip.
It’s starting to feel like summer out there and many kiddos will take a swim to beat the heat. Before you bust out the hose and inflatable pool, make sure you’re taking steps to minimize stormwater pollution. Here are three ways to be a stormwater-savvy swimmer:
- Make sure your pool is eco-friendly. Avoid pools made of materials like polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and other plasticizers like phthalates, which can cause harm to both people and the environment. Instead, opt for low-density polyethylene (LDPE). Find a safe and stormwater-savvy kiddie pool here.
- Fill the pool with water once and turn off the hose. Don’t let the hose nozzle drip excess water into the pool or ground. This can cause runoff, which will carry pollutants on the ground into the watershed. Avoid creating runoff by using a hose stopper like this one.
- Check your little ones’ diapers before they hop into the pool. Any leaks from your swimmers can contaminate the water.
