Only YOU Can Fight Rainy Day Stormwater Pollution

Are you doing these simple things to prevent stormwater pollution?
The holidays are here and so is the threat of rain! While we embrace the change in weather as a relief from the heat, we must be mindful of how rain can bring pollution to the Mojave River Watershed. Runoff can pick up fertilizer, oil, pesticides, dirt, bacteria, and other pollutants and carry them into our storm drains and catchbasins untreated.
This rainy season, follow these four tips to be stormwater savvy:
- Keep the lid on your trash container closed and secure when not in use to keep rainwater out.
- Pick up your pet’s waste and dispose of it properly in the garbage.
- Limit the use of pesticides and herbicides, and if necessary, use non-toxic formulas.
- Check your vehicle for leaks regularly and repair any leaks as soon as possible.
