Find out how to choose pollution-free protective gear.
As High Desert residents follow the requirement to wear masks in public areas, we urge you to continue your promise to protect the Mojave River Watershed from pollution. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as disposable masks, gloves and disinfectant wipes are often left on the ground after use, and that is not stormwater savvy.
Instead of a disposable mask, we encourage you to opt for a reusable face covering. Check out this CDC tutorial to make your own reusable mask at home with sew and no-sew options included. According to the CDC, disposable gloves should only be used for cleaning or caring for someone who is sick. Practicing everyday preventative actions like social distancing and washing your hands are just as effective. At the very least, we can limit pollution from disposable gloves and disinfectant wipes left on the ground by using hand sanitizer instead. Not only do these tips ensure your everyone’s safety, it keeps our community pollution free.
