Give Dad the Gift of a Clean Watershed this Father’s Day

Get ahead of the curve this Father’s Day and start preparing some stormwater-savvy gifts for your Dad! Whether it's an upcycled card or an eco-friendly act of service, we've got you covered with a list of cool ideas to choose from.

Check out our gift guide for the stormwater-savvy man in your life!

DIY Newspaper Cactus Card
Your news-loving High Desert Dad will enjoy this upcycled newspaper cactus card that will showcase what their child knows about them!

Here is what you will need:

  • Newspaper
  • Construction paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Watercolor
  • Paint Brushes
  • Markers
  • Crayons (optional)

Start by grabbing a leftover newspaper and let your child pick which section of the news they see dad reading most. Then have them draw a cactus shape onto the newspaper. Grab the watercolor paint and let them color it in! We suggest cutting the cactus shape out of the newspaper for children that are too young to use scissors. Then have them glue the cactus onto a piece of construction paper and let them decorate their cactus cards to resemble Dad! They can get as creative as they want!

Wash His Car
Dads love showing off their car! Treat yours to a car wash at a commercial facility. It’s a lot safer for our watershed if we visit a local car wash like The Speedwash or Civic Center Car Wash instead of washing it at home. Commercial car washes reclaim wash water, preventing oil, grease and toxic fluids from washing into the street and the storm drain system.

Sometimes all a Dad wants for Father's Day is to spend time with his family, this is your chance to give him the gift of a shorter to-do list!

Go Hiking
Spending time outdoors is a great Father’s Day celebration. The High Desert will get pretty toasty this June with temperatures in the triple digits, so prepare your water jugs, mason jars and reusable containers for a stormwater-savvy picnic! Head out on an adventure with the family and visit some of our local trails like the Mojave River Forks Regional Park. If you're up for a challenge, visit the Pacific Crest Trail for a lengthier experience. Don’t forget to leave the trails as you found them and pick up any trash or mess you may have made during your trip.
