Three Easy Ways to Green Your Football Watch Parties

Aug 27, 2021 at 11:26am

Here’s our game plan for sustainable sports fans to host eco-friendly football parties.

Football is back and we want to make sure our game-day celebrations are eco-friendly! There are lots of little ways we can cheer on our favorite team while promoting sustainability. From sideline single-use plastics to putting recycling bins in the starting lineup we’ve got you covered with our green game-day guide.

Sideline single-use plastics.

Single-use plastics are harmful for our watershed. Instead of handing out disposable bottles at your parties, fill up a big jug of water/soda/juice and ask your guests to bring their own reusable bottles. This’ll make it easier for everyone to keep track of their own containers and your party won’t produce as much plastic waste. Side note, if reusable supplies aren’t  an option, you can also purchase compostable silverware, plates and napkins.

Put recycle bins in your starting lineup.

There’s no doubt that your party will produce some trash, make sure that you’re prepared to recycle as much as you can. Soda cans and glass bottles are recyclable, so make sure to set out a recycle bin so that your guests can recycle easily. Placing signs on the bins and making a quick announcement about them can be super helpful in getting guests to recycle!

Bench the store-bought décor.

Upcycle old decorations in your home to match your team’s colors and use them all season long. Take old holiday or birthday decorations you have in storage and repurpose them for football season. This is a great alternative to purchasing store-bought decorations that can end up in landfills or littered in our watershed.
